A set of advertising cartoons commissioned by Hedex with a World Cup theme, that appeared in Women’s sections of national newspapers and selected womens magazine. Approximately twelve ideas/rough sketches were supplied for them to choose from.
Advertising cartoons are a very powerful tool, their use is a great way to lighten up some of the serious challenges we face in the current business environment. Cartoon graphics drawn professionally attract the eye, and the humour they use helps readers to retain their content.
Use funny business cartoons because they break up text heavy reports, newsletters and presentations. They keep people upbeat and interested. People remember funny cartoons!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways – Chardonnay in one hand – chocolate in the other – body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOO-HOO, what a ride!
This was something a bit different for me to draw up – even after all my years drawing cartoons I’d never done artwork for a flip book. You’ve seen those books where you flip through the pages to produce an animation!?
Brian Belstirling of The Copy Center asked me if I was able to morph their old logo ‘The Copy Center’ into his new company logo ‘Commerce Print Strategies’. He provided high res files for both logos and then we discussed a few ideas and finally agreed that we would pump up the old logo until it blew up and then all the bits floated down into the new one
Here’s Brian’s original sketch…
The finished animated gif…I drew 88 cartoon images/pages to create this flip book…

When commissioning cartoons… Pick TWO of the three options!
Good+Fast = Expensive Choose this and I’ll postpone every other project on my drawing board, my round of golf or give up my footy match ticket and work day and night to get your job done. It WILL NOT BE CHEAP though!
Good+Cheap = Slow Choose good and cheap and I’ll still do a great job at a discounted price. But you’ll have to be patient while I fit you in after my higher paying clients, updating my web site, going down the gym, my footy matches, rounds of golf and liquid lunches!
Fast+Cheap = Inferior Choose this option at your peril. It will still be delivered on time but it will be inferior, as many corners as possible will be cut. You know the saying ‘You get what you pay for!’ The least favorable option in my opinion!
